Law enforcement officials in Arizona have taken a new step in the investigation into the disappearance of an 84-year-old woman, the mother of a prominent morning show host. On Sunday, authorities were seen conducting a search of the septic system behind the woman’s Tucson residence, utilizing specialized equipment to probe the area.
The search operation, captured by aerial footage, showed investigators deploying a long pole into a manhole on the property. The local sheriff’s department confirmed the investigation remains active across multiple locations but stated that no suspects, persons of interest, or related vehicles have yet been identified. The department has not scheduled any press briefings but pledged to call a conference should significant developments arise.
The woman was last confirmed to be at her home on January 31 and was reported missing the following day. Her daughter and son-in-law are believed to have been the last to see her.
The case took a disturbing turn when several news organizations reportedly received a ransom note from individuals claiming responsibility for the abduction. The note allegedly demanded a substantial sum in cryptocurrency, with a deadline set for early this week.
In a direct response, the woman’s three adult children issued a public, emotional appeal in a video message. They expressed understanding of the received demands and pleaded for their mother’s safe return, emphasizing her age and fragile health, which requires consistent medication. The television host daughter explicitly stated the family is prepared to meet the ransom to secure her release and also requested verifiable proof that her mother is alive.
Some observers analyzing the case have suggested the communication patterns from the alleged kidnappers could be a stalling tactic, potentially indicating a hoax, as they might be unable to provide the requested proof of life. The investigation continues as authorities pursue all leads.
