A radio host has issued a swift apology after a significant error during a live broadcast. While delivering an entertainment news segment, the host mistakenly announced the passing of legendary actor and comedian Dick Van Dyke, who is alive and recently celebrated his 100th birthday.
The correction was made immediately by colleagues, who emphasized the sensitivity required when reporting such news. The host expressed regret for the confusion, clarifying that the intended report concerned actor James Van Der Beek, who died at age 48.
Van Der Beek had been public about his battle with colorectal cancer, which was diagnosed in late 2024. In the months leading to his passing, his visibly declining health had drawn concern from the public. Despite the physical toll, the actor maintained in a final interview that he felt stronger and was undergoing various treatments. He expressed initial shock at his diagnosis, noting he had been in peak physical condition.
Reports indicate he spent his final weeks in hospice care, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife and their six children.
