Federal investigators have released a surveillance photograph of a person sought in connection with the disappearance of an 84-year-old Tucson woman, Nancy Guthrie. The image, made public Wednesday, depicts an individual in a tunnel wearing a mask, dark gloves, and a backpack.
The release marks a new phase in an investigation now entering its second week. Authorities had previously stated they were not aware of any suspects or ongoing communication with the missing woman’s family. The case, initially treated as a missing persons report, was escalated after evidence discovered at Guthrie’s home prompted law enforcement to declare it a crime scene.
According to local reports, a ransom demand was issued prior to a deadline that has now expired. The demand specified a multi-million dollar sum to be paid in cryptocurrency.
In a public appeal, family members have spoken directly to the person they believe is responsible, expressing a willingness to meet the ransom terms to ensure their mother’s safe return. They have also urged the public for assistance, asking anyone with potentially relevant information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, to contact authorities immediately.
Alongside the search for the individual in the photograph, investigators are also examining a vehicle seen at a convenience store in the area around the time of Guthrie’s disappearance. The elderly woman, described as having mobility challenges but no cognitive impairments, was last seen at her residence on the evening of January 31.
